Developed in 1970s, liposuction had created big hopes in plastic surgery. Ultrasonic liposuction was developed in 1993 by Italian Prof. Dr. Zohi. It setups take advantage of ultrasonic waves. Vaser liposuction can be considered as a new alternative to classic liposuction used over the years. This method is approved by the FDA, and helps to eliminate the fat that cannot be removed from the body, by diet or sport activities.

During the application of the method, the area and the amount of fat to be removed are determined. A special melting fluid is injected to the specified area to ease fat removal. Then the instrument is used to suck the fat out through special cannulae, inserted into the area through small holes in the skin.

The surrounding tissue is unharmed during the process, since the pressure of fat suction through cannulae is very low. Thus, the wavy irregularities are avoided during the recovery. Also, not tight socks and corset may be recommended to be used by the patient during the first 1-3 weeks of recovery.

Vaser Lipo can be done under either general or local anesthesia, by joint decision of both the doctor and the patient. The duration of the surgery varies depending on the number of the areas to be treated. Massages done after the surgery can speed up the recovery process.

Vaser Lipo can be applied to hips, calf, front and back legs, knee and wrist areas, waist, arms and back areas storing fat. Additionally, thanks to the thin cannulae, it can be applied to jaw and neck-like delicate and thin areas. Body has a definite number of fat cells. Obesity results from the growth of those cells in size but not the increase of their number. During Vaser Lipo certain amount of those fat cells is removed. During possible new gain of weight, the remaining fat cells will increase in their size, but obesity will not reach the same level as before in the same area.

1- During Liposuction, fats are melted and removed with curette, causing swelling and lividity in the area due to blood vessels damage by curette. In Ultrasonic Liposuction, blood vessels remain unharmed therefore, this complication does not occur.

2- Numbness (paresthesia) may occur after Liposuction due to nerve injuries, but not after Ultrasonic Liposuction.

3- Lifting in the skin surface area actively stimulated by ultrasonic energy will take place. Therefore, no wrinkles will remain in the area, unlike in other systems.

4- Post-operational recovery of patients is very fast due to Ultrasonic Liposuction being no traumatizing method.

5- Pain and swelling complications are very rare after Ultrasonic Liposuction.

Patient consider Ultrasonic Liposuction a faster, less painful method, with more proper results, faster recovery rate, affecting only fat tissue, no side effects to other tissues, such as nerve, connective and vascular tissues therefore being more comfortable and effective. Thus, most patients prefer this method, having put the cost on the second plan.
